Examine your tape after a skate. Toe wear means the blade is tipping up — stick too long or lie too low. Heel wear means tipping down — too short or lie too high. Centered wear means dialed in.
Deep knee-bend skaters need a higher lie and shorter stick to keep the blade flat while driving low. Upright players benefit from a lower lie and more reach above the ice.
Defensemen typically run a higher lie for point shots and board battles. Forwards favor lower lies for close-range puck control on rushes. Goalies use entirely different geometry.
Every inch you cut stiffens the shaft roughly 10 flex points. Always buy a stick at the flex that accounts for your planned cut — not what the shaft feels like uncut.
